Up to 1500 community minded volunteers demonstrated their commitment to a clean Oxford by taking part in a litter blitz on Friday 6 th and Saturday 7 th March. 10 0 local groups – including 23 schools – from across the city were represented with their volunteers litter picking for two hours at a location of their choice.
Talking to the many highly motivated people taking part, litter picking is certainly hard work and rewarding but great fun and sociable too! There were many comments about the wonderful uplifting feeling when looking at newly cleaned places and general agreement that a clean environment is a better, happier place to be.
The unexpected included a Dalek taking part at Sainsbury’s Heyford Hill car park sporting an OxClean hi vis vest; fifteen or so washing machines, fridges and cookers arriving at City Works; St Clements Angels, who started their litter pick with a prayer for their safety and the environment.
