Schools’ Anti-Litter Campaign

Secondary & Primary Schools

Oxford Civic Society volunteers carry out an annual assessment of each of the Secondary and Primary Schools in Oxford. The objective of this Anti-Litter Campaign is three-fold:

  • establish and maintain litter-free environments in Oxford’s schools
  • raise awareness of the many benefits of a litter-free environment
  • involve young people in the process so that they understand the problems and how to address them

Unannounced visits are made to the schools during each term.

The schools are assessed on the absence of litter and the presence of accessible disposal facilities as seen on first impression of the school, play areas around class rooms and the playing fields.

At the end of the year, a shield is awarded to the Secondary School which achieves the highest marks.

Primary Schools are awarded graded Certificates of Merit.
