Schools’ Anti-Litter Campaign

Objectives

  • establish and maintain litter-free environments in Oxford’s schools
  • raise awareness of the many benefits of a litter-free environment - thereby encouraging pupils not to drop litter in or out of school
  • encourage participation in OxClean Spring Cleans supported by curricular activity

Secondary School Shield & Primary School Certificates

OxClean volunteers carry out an annual assessment of each of the Secondary and Primary Schools in Oxford. Unannounced visits are made to the schools during each term.

The schools are assessed on the absence of litter and the presence of accessible disposal facilities as seen on first impression of the school, play areas around class rooms and the playing fields.

At the end of the school year, a shield is awarded to the Secondary School which achieves the highest marks.  Primary Schools are awarded graded Certificates of Merit.
