Recruiting Volunteers

Whilst our main focus is on promoting Spring Clean to community groups, we know that you, as organiser of a group, have the difficult job of recruiting people to join your Spring Clean.  Certainly, the more people involved the better.

Here are some of the ways that we appeal for people to register with us so that we can signpost them to appropriate community groups:

  • media coverage in the run up to Spring Clean
  • posters displayed on community notice boards
  • plasma screens at The Co-operative Food stores in the city

By far the best way of recruiting people to join groups is at the local level.  Here are some suggestions:

  • Door to door leaflets (A5) – you can download leaflets, personalise and print a two sided leaflet and distribute these in neighbourhoods that you think are most likely to respond to your appeal
  • Posters (A5) – you can download posters, personalise and print a poster for displaying within your neighbourhood – schools, community centres, shops
  • Word of mouth – encourage people who  are already part of the group to put the word about when they meet up with neighbours – book clubs, mother and baby groups
  • Make it Fun 1 - fix up a social event after the litter-pick – eg bring and share picnic
  • Make it Fun 2 - get local businesses (eg shops, pubs) to support you by eg  supplying hot drinks

NB If you cannot download and/or print these items, please email oxclean.org.uk - we can help you.
